Where Are They Now? Bear’s New Life

Where are my tuna and catnip, human?

Handsome Bear found his forever home in 2009. Recently, he decided to update us on his life during the past two years. (Yes, receiving email directly from a cat is a bit unusual!)

“My name is Bear, though my humans usually call me Teddy B. My human Mom always insists on full names for her cats, so my full name is Theodore Oliver. My middle name came from my human Dad after Oliver in the Dickens’ novel, as I am always asking for more food! My human Mom also sometimes calls me Dancy Feet at I have a way of dancing back and forth when it is time to eat or even Brisket, as I am a pretty big hunk of meat myself. I have the coolest fur, too. My fur is black on the outer edge, but if you rub my fur in the opposite direction, it is white underneath!

I love curling up with my favorite humans, bird watching from various windows, hitting the catnip occasionally, chasing the laser pen dot all over the house, drinking the water that my humans take out of the dehumidifier and put in a bucket to be used for watering plants outside (as if I don’t already have two water bowls in separate locations in the house!), and my special snack every day at supper time. I enjoy lying on my back like road kill in the summer and I sit directly in front of the forced air heat vent in the living room when the furnace runs in the winter! I am generally pretty mute most of the time, which causes my humans to step on me in the dark when I don’t announce myself. However, at dinner or snack time, the word “conniption” would be appropriate. I love to eat and I am very vocal about it!

I am also a very regular cat. My humans generally head to bed around 9:30 pm on weeknights. If they are still downstairs at that time, I have another conniption until I am put to bed. My human Mom has suggested to me that I am welcome to take myself to bed, especially on weekends when they stay up late, but, hey, they should be ready to go when I am! Isn’t that why there is a sign hanging in our front hall that says, ‘The cat and his housekeeping staff live here?’
My humans have yet to finally decide if I am somewhat of a thug or if my large size and strong muscles make me a threat to other kitties. When I was first adopted, I would try to wrestle with the resident senior kitty and would end up injuring him, so we had to be kept separated. The senior kitty passed away last winter and I spent the next few months chasing my tail on a regular basis, so I believe I did like him and miss him. I’m pretty sure I am just a big oaf and not intentional in my injuring, but for now I remain a one and only. Here’s to the West Philadelphia City Kitty life!”
It sounds like Bear and his family staff are doing quite well. Thanks for the update, Bear!
