We have received some very enthusiastic and much appreciated requests to support this year’s art auction.   For 2012 instead of the in-person auction, we will be auctioning 1 or 2 items at a time on our website over the course of the year.   This allows us to dedicate more of our time to directly helping kitties, and lets more people participate in our auctions from all over the country.

Meatball the irresistibly cute kitten in 2006

Those of you who have followed City Kitties since the very beginning will remember that long before Meatball (of Meatball Memorial Fund fame) there was another kitten with a similar name: Meatball Sung!

This tiny black kitten showed up at a vet clinic with a horrific wound on her neck. She was treated by Dr. Sung (thus the last name), who it just so happens recently adopted foster kittens Flat Stanley and Marvin. Meatball Sung became an internet sensation with her very own desktop wallpaper, courtesy of local photographer and City Kitties supporter Kyle Cassidy.

So we were very excited to receive a letter, updated photo, and generous donation from Meatball, herself! We’re a bit late in posting it, but hope that Meatball (and her mom) won’t mind the delay. Click below to enlarge the letter:

After a long hiatus, one of our favorite fundraising events is back! Cooking with Cat Ladies is a delicious way to show your support for stray cats and kittens. This fine dining experience will be held the evening of Saturday, March 10th at a volunteer’s West Philadelphia home.

How It Works

One of our volunteer foster parents, a hostess and cook extraordinaire, has prepared a mouth-watering menu for Cooking with Cat Ladies guests. A $50 ticket purchase reserves your seat at the table, where you will enjoy a five-course vegetarian feast and the company of other cat lovers and City Kitties volunteers. The menu is not yet set in stone, but it will be vegetarian with vegan and gluten-free options (see below).

Seats are limited, so don’t delay in purchasing your ticket! All proceeds benefit City Kitties. (And it goes without saying that this event is open to anyone — not just ladies as the title may imply!)   NOTE:  If you are unable to attend but would still like to support this event, you may purchase seats to the event and we will offer it to our dedicated foster homes to go as your guest.   Just note your intention to donate your seat to a foster parent in the paypal notes section when you purchase the tickets.

For those of you who have followed City Kitties throughout the years, you know that every year our friend Evan saves up his allowance to make a donation to City Kitties.  Evan is now nine years old and saved up a whopping $97!!  In years past, his donation has inspired people from around the world to share his story, and match his donation.  We are happy to share this year’s letter from Evan.  Thanks Evan for being so awesome and for caring so much about the kitties!
